ZACTS Staff Housing Project

The Problem

In Zambia, becoming a teacher is a well-respected career path. However, wages have failed to keep up with inflation and even teachers struggle to stay above the poverty line. Securing affordable housing poses a significant financial burden for many teachers, particularly in rural areas, where there is often no access to affordable and appropriate accommodations. Teachers often feel they have no recourse but to relocate to urban areas. As the school grows more staff housing is needed.

The Project

ZACTS School for Orphans and Vulnerable Children has five staff houses for 10 teachers. Two teachers and their families have been sharing one home, affording little to no privacy. It is a requirement from the Ministry of Education that schools provide staff housing. Community members are dedicated to retaining the School’s talented teachers and have pledged to participate in the construction of the additional homes by moulding the bricks. The proposed homes are Ministry of Education standard houses.

The total cost of the project is $27,660 for each house.

Your Gift Makes a Big Difference!

  • Your gift will help ensure that the required housing accommodations are met and that the best teachers will pursue employment at ZACTS.
  • The improved infrastructure will upgrade the School’s reputation and standing with the Ministry of Education, offering the potential for greater Government partnerships in the future.
  • Your support will help to retain competent and passionate teachers, and provide access to high quality education for ZACTS’ students and the surrounding communities.
  • Due to the School’s strong reputation in the community, demand for student enrolment has increased and hope has come to the region! Extra students mean more teachers are required and additional homes need to be built.

“There is no greater joy nor greater reward than to make a fundamental difference in someone’s life.”
